It has been a busy couple of weeks around here! Our biggest news is that we have moved into our new home at 209 W. Main Street. We are just down the road from Melello’s coffee shop and Alba Park. We love being right on Main Street – the visibility is great and it’s making it a lot easier for people to drop by.

With the help of our many fantastic volunteers, we have made some changes to our new home. The painting is done, new carpet has been installed, and several other items updated. Next week, Jessica’s Closet, our free clothing resource, will have a whole new look that will make it easier for kids and families to “shop.”

In the midst of moving, we’ve been busy with our holiday sponsorship program. Many individuals and businesses have stepped up to make sure that the holidays are special for more than 100 local kids. Check back for pictures of the gift giving fun!

We appreciate all of the support that has been shown for our agency, and for the kids and families that we serve.

Maslow Project will be moving to a new location in the next few weeks. We are excited to have more space to serve our kids and families, but we will have no means to transport the youth involved in our Girls Unite group or pick up donations for our food pantry. Up until now we have used a Kids Unlimited vehicle but our move makes this arrangement no longer possible. We are in need of a van or suv so we can use it for both purposes.

Girls Unite offers young women (ages 9-13) in transition opportunities in the community such as frequenting theatre, doing community service, engaging in art projects, and body image/self-esteem curriculum among other activities. Our food pantry ensures that homeless and highly mobile youth have a good meal.

Do you know someone who can donate a vehicle? Please contact us and let us know. THANK YOU!!!!!!

With the weather changing so dramatically over the last few days, we have seen a lot of kids in the drop-in center who are trying to prepare for being out in the cold weather. Maslow Project could really use your donations of warm coats in all sizes, sleeping bags/heavy blankets, hats and gloves, umbrellas, and of course, food. Easy to fix or snack items always work best for our kids. Donations can be dropped off at our current location in the back of the Kids Unlimited building, 821 N Riverside Ave, from 11am-6pm, Monday through Friday.

This email sent by Mary Ferrell on 10/17 and I felt it should be shared here on our public forum…

I wanted to take a minute to tell you all how the collaboration between our agencies really came together yesterday to help one of our homeless youth find some stability in a highly unstable time in her life. This young lady has been both a runaway and kicked out and has had some unfortunate experiences while on the streets and came to us feeling lost and needing direction. After a hot meal and some comforting advise from our Maslow staff, we realized there was a need for some family mediation and a safe place for her to go last night. Thank you Ginger from Mediation Works for being available at the last minute to help her through the conversation with her mom and come to an agreement that the Host Home program through Community Works would be a safe alternative. I’m also grateful that through our partnership with Community Works that she was able to more quickly connect with their staff to get placed and is now safely in a host home. I do not know the status as of this minute today but when I look at the team work that happened yesterday to help this teen, it reaffirms for me how important it is that we are all here working together! Great job
